Make Money on Pinterest With Affiliate Marketing

This is a Step-by-step guide of how you can become an affiliate with ‘Les Kenny’s outdoor woodworking plans‘ and apply affiliate pins to your Pinterest platform.

What is affiliate marketing?

Affiliate marketing is the process of earning a commission by promoting other people’s (or company’s) products. You find a product you like, promote it to others and earn a piece of the profit for each sale that you make.

Apply affiliate pins to your Pinterest platform

The quick version

  1. Log into your Pinterest business account
  2. Click Create at the top-left of the page and click Create Pin
  3. Add an image to create a Pin by clicking the up arrow then select an image from your computer or drag and drop an image into the uploader. The ideal Pinterest image size is at least 1000 x 1500px and an aspect ratio of 2:3.

  4. Add a title, description, and destination link (the destination link must have your affiliate ID added to the end)
  5. Choose to publish your Pin immediately or schedule it for a later date
  6. Choose an existing board to save your Pin to from the dropdown menu, or select Create board to create a new one
  7. Click Publish

STEP 1: Get the URL of the product you want to promote

Go to the shop (product display page) at Les Kenny’s woodworking plans here → https://leskenny.com/lk2/shop/ and you will be presented with the product page as shown below.

You can link to the shop, but for the time being let’s focus on a particular product, not the complete shop.

Click on the picture of a product to promote.

Click on the picture of the Adirondack Chair (Where the red arrow points in the image above).

That will take you to that particular products’ sales page (downloadable plans for an Adirondack Chair), as shown in the image below.

The URL (webpage address) is shown at the top in the browsers address bar.

That is the URL you will need for your pinterest pin, so copy and save it.

In this example the URL is https://leskenny.com/lk2/product/adirondack-chair-plans/

STEP 2: Get your product image/s

  1. Ideally (if available) You can get relevant product images from the Creatives section in Your Affiliate Area.The correct URL will automatically be generated with your affiliate ID appended.
    The downside: The correct image size may not be available.

  2. You can extract (download) images to your computer from the website product page.

The ideal Pinterest image size is 1000 x 1500px and an aspect ratio of 2:3. These Pinterest dimensions are recommended by the platform for standard size Pins, to guarantee the best Pin image quality possible!

STEP 3: Add your affiliate pin to your Pinterest business account

Click Create at the top-left of the page and click Create Pin and you will be presented with a page as shown below.

Add the title, the description, and the destination link. See the text in the image below for reference, and read the important notes under the image below.

The destination link

The URL (website address) you put into the ‘Add a destination link‘ field will be the URL we talked about in PART ONE, but add your affiliate ID to the end of it.

The URL from STEP 1 is:

The URL with your affiliate ID added is:
https://leskenny.com/lk2/product/adirondack-chair-plans/?yourID

So the latter is what you would enter in the Add a destination link‘ field.

How to disclose affiliate links on Pinterest

According to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), you must disclose that you’re an affiliate anytime you promote affiliate products. You can do that by adding one of the following hashtags at the end of the description.
  • #ad
  • #sponsored
  • #affiliatelink

There are also more you can use…
You can also use “affiliate link” in quotations or brackets [affiliate link] or parenthesis (affiliate link).

And Finally

Check Publish immediately or Publish at a later date at the bottom of the page.

Select the board you want at the top of the page – or make a new board, and then click Publish
